We have made a lot of progress with our Ecuador water project over the past few months! We completed an Alternative Analysis, which details our design choices and why we chose those particular designs as opposed to other possible solutions. This also helped us to support our choices with concrete data.
We also completed our Implementation Pre-Trip Plan and sent it in for review. This document details our entire design plan, complete with CAD drawings, a construction schedule, and budget analysis. This was in preparation for our Implementation Trip, which we hope to complete this May. During this trip, we would oversee the beginning of construction in Tandacato, Ecuador. This would be an amazing experience, to see first hand all of our efforts coming to fruition.
Additionally, we have also participated in multiple outreach activities where we shared our ongoing Ecuador project with the community. In February 2025, our chapter visited JPL to present our project, along with CAD drawings and design decisions, to multiple research scientists. It was an amazing opportunity to get to present our work to so many renowned JPL researchers and engineers who have a lot of experience in project design and development! JPL’s chief scientist, Dr. Jonathan Lunine, also attended our presentation and donated $100 to our club!

We also toured JPL later that day, and it was inspiring to hear the stories behind JPL’s origin and current endeavors.

Later in February, we also attended the first EWB Southern California Regional Conference, hosted by UCLA! Here, we were able to meet with dozens of other members from UCLA, UCR, UCI, and other schools in the southern CA region. We participated in multiple team building activities, listened to other chapters talk about their current projects, and attended informational sessions to learn about club leadership and organization. It was super cool getting to meet students from other chapters and learn about their projects!

We’re thrilled to keep developing our designs and growing our club in the coming months!
